Mandy Dutton Hudson

Principal | Better Construction Co

Mandy brings together nearly two decades of nonprofit leadership with a lifelong commitment to seeking answers to the needs of underserved populations. Drawing on her experience as the Founder and Executive Director of Learning to Serve—a Georgia-based scholarship organization focused on expanding opportunity for students facing systemic barriers —Mandy helped establish Better Construction Co to address one of the most critical constraints on upward mobility: access to quality, attainable housing. Her work reflects a deeply rooted dedication to service, economic opportunity, and community-centered solutions, particularly in rural and historically overlooked regions.

Mandy established Learning to Serve, a Georgia-based student scholarship organization in 2009. The organization provides K–12 scholarships that expand educational choice for students whose needs are not adequately met through traditional systems. Scholarships are earned through student-led community service, reinforcing the values of responsibility, contribution, and civic engagement. The organization focuses on serving students in failing public schools, rural communities, students with learning differences, and children from foster and adoptive families. Through this work, Mandy has helped families access educational environments better aligned with their children’s individual needs, supporting both academic success and long-term personal development. In addition to her work in education, Mandy is the sixth-generation owner of a family farm in southeast Georgia, where Better Construction Co is headquartered. She is focused on leveraging this legacy to create quality jobs in rural Georgia, fostering economic growth in regions that have historically lacked durable employment opportunities. Her long-term vision includes preserving the family farm as a working enterprise for her three sons, who would represent the seventh generation of owner-operators as well as offering opportunities for sustainable jobs for rural residents.

Mandy is particularly passionate about addressing the intersection of education, economic mobility, and housing. She recognizes that the lack of affordable, quality housing is a significant constraint on upward mobility for underserved communities. Through Better Construction Co, she is committed to advancing sustainable, durable, and rapidly deployable housing solutions that are both functional and thoughtfully designed—helping set a new standard for attainable housing in communities that need it most.
